I have been trying to bring more and more Eastern Catholic
practices into my prayer life. :byzsoc:

But as far as asking for the prayers of EO saints I am stumped. 🤷

Which EO saints does the Catholic Church agree are in heaven, if any? :getholy:

Well, John Paul 2 referred to SAINT Seraphim of Sarov.

There are a few post-schism saints that are on the Ruthenian and Ukrainian calendars.

There was also an attempt to glorify the holy abbot of Pochaev, Job (John Zhezelo), though he opposed the union. It didn’t go anywhere.

Thanks for that,

BTW, for those who don’t know, when I refer to EO saints I am not looking for pre-schism saints. I am wondering more on the saints that the EO recognized after rejecting the authority of the Petrine office.

St. Gregory Palamas is not only a Saint in the Catholic Church, but has a regular Feast Day celebrated at least by the Melkite Church, so he’s most assuredly permissible for veneration. šŸ‘

Peace and God bless!

But we should be asking ourselves if it is wise to do so. He opposed union with the Catholic Church in his day and taught doctrines contrary to the Catholic faith.

St. John of Shanghai (San Francisco)
St. Alexis Toth of Wilkes Barree
St. Herman of Alaska
St. John Krondstat
St. Nektarios
St. Vladimir
The Romanov family (Czar nikolai 2 and his family)
St. John Chrsystom
St. Basil the Great
St. Gregory the theologian
Sts. Cyril and Methodius

I don’t think all of these are approved by the Catholic Church, however, which was the point of the OP.

The Romanovs (secular leaders who were not martyred for their Faith, and have no significant Holy reputation) and Fr. Alexis Toth (leader of the schism between the Ruthenian Catholic Church and what became ACROD) certainly aren’t, at any rate.

Peace and God bless!

Is this true? St Gregory Palamas believed that Roman catholics are heretics. He wrote many statements to that effect.

ā€œThe Latins have left the enclosure of the Church.ā€

Just one quote of many. I am very surprised that the Catholic church venerates a saint who considered the same church to be heretical.

Yes, his Feast is the Second Sunday of Great Lent. šŸ™‚
