I’ve been trying to find if there is an Eastern Catholic church (of ANY rite) in Stockton, CA.

I can find some records of them existing a number of years ago, but they seem to have all disappeared, along with the traditional latin masses, around the time the new bishop rolled in…

Surely Eastern Catholics didn’t disappear, and Stockton is a pretty diverse city… there’s got to be some Eastern Catholics here. Where do you attend divine liturgy?

According to this page, there is a Ruthenian rite there. I don’t know how accurate the page is, but you could always try the phone number given there.

To the best of my knowledge there are no longer any Eastern Catholic parishes in Stockton. The closest would the Ukrainian and Melkite parishes in Sacramento, or the Melkite parish in San Jose (note that the information on the page cited in the previous post has the wrong information: this is St. Elias at 4411 Hyland in San Jose). The nearest Ruthenian parish is in Los Gatos, the Stockton mission no longer exists.

Having a new Latin bishop would not affect the Eastern Catholic Churches, who most have their own hierarchies.

Dear belgianwaffles9,

Since you mentioned of any rite… and some of the suggestions were quite far… there is an Chaldean parish in Sacramento which uses an English service. The priest of the English community is Fr. Dimitri, who entered into the Catholic Church with the rest of us who used to be part of ACAD.

There are also two more Chaldean Rite, ie Church of the East, parishes in Ceres and Turlock, but I believe currently they only use native tongue, so you will need to rely on the translation books they have, and it might not be ideal for you.

If you are in need of information on how to contact them, please let me know.

In Christ,
Anthony
