one should fast for an hour before receiving COmmunion, how about after Mass, can one eat immediately? today, I was feeling hungry, but i ate a few biscuits early on, then didn’t eat., so i didn’t break the 1 hour fast. i attended Mass and received Communion. after that, after some time i ate pie for lunch. is that ok?

there is no law whatever about eating or drinking after communion. Eat and drink whatever you want after communion–just please wait until you get outside of church to do it.

You ate pie for lunch??? Is that all you had, was pie?? That’s not OK, you really should have something more healthy than pie for lunch! 😉

It’s fine to eat right after reception of the Holy Eucharist, just wait till Mass has ended first though, don’t go pulling out the cookies in the pew or anything like that.

right. no cheerios or goldfish in church
no gum in church
no cheetohs in church
no soda pop in church
please parents, make sure what you put in the sippy cup is not something sugary and sticky, we spend literally hours cleaning up after parents who are helpless at amusing their little ones without food and beverage for an hour. can’t they just suck on the car keys for a while (rant over, aaaaahhh).

Poor you having the privelege of cleaning God’s house and being in His Real Presence for literally hours 🙂

I was taught you should wait maybe 15 minutes after Communion before eating again - not that it’s a strict rule, just a bit more respectful.

Does that include the half hour required to get out of the parking lot?

Well, considering that it takes at least that much time to end the mass, file out, and get into the car, I don’t think 15 minutes is that extreme!🙂

I was taught the same thing. The reason: it is believed that is about how long Jesus remains present in your body (until the appearance of bread no longer exists).

Ideally, we should spend that time in silent adoration/thanksgiving rather than rushing out the doors. I realize that is not always possible, but we should try to be as recollected as possible during those precious minutes.

I have been to very few Catholic churches in lo these many years where silence is possible after Mass, let alone after communion. First we have to have the enforced group sing, then the announcements, then a couple of seconds of silence while Father adjusts his mike, then the closing. After Mass is the social fest where people who just saw each other yesterday can joke and cackle and visit at the top of their lungs as if they are shouting at each other across a basketball court. Then of course you have the ladies banging up and down the pews putting up kneelers, picking up kleenex and cheerios etc.
