eating blood

You’ll get my khema when you pry it from my cold dead hands.
I just bought some round steak, so I was checking out that recipe. I got to the end and noticed that there was no cooking step involved. To each his own, for sure.

I like Polish czarnina, when I can get it.

One of the preceding posts got very close to saying how sacred blood is. I think the Jewish laws may have had to do with that idea and with their prohibition of drinking blood of sacrificed animals, in a pagan religious observance.

I’m assuming you are talking about this verse:

(Acts 15:19-21)

But it needs to be taken in context with otherverses int he new testament:

1 Corinthians chapter 8

Also 1 Corinthians 6:12 and 1 corinthians 10:23

The point of the verse in Acts is to give rules to the gentiles who are coming in to the church through Christ so that the mingling of Jew and Gentile goes smoother. Basically, all the laws of OT were fulfilled. This is why we’re allowed to eat pork and wear mixed fabrics now. This is one of those laws. The Jews still observed them, the gentiles did not. When gentiles came in through Christ, there was a huge problem with them not following traditional law. Acts 15 is an example of how they tried to work it out, and St. Paul later clarifies it in Corinthians.
1 Cor. 8

This has nothing to do with the eating of blood or the law on clean and unclean meats. Notice verse 1: “Now, as touching THINGS OFFERED UNTO IDOLS….” And again, verse 4:”As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are OFFERED IN SACRIFCE UNTO IDOLS….” The subject matter clearly is meats offered to idols.

I Cor. 6:12 and 1 Cor. 10:23:

“All things are lawful for me” – did Paul mean robbery, or murder? Of course not. Obviously, all LAWFUL things, not unlawful things, are lawful for Paul. If eating unclean meats is unlawful, then that is not part of things lawful for Paul.

NOT ONE WORD is said about blood or unclean foods in 1 Cor. 10:23-33. The entire subject is, again, meats “offered in sacrifice to idols” (I Cor. 10:19).

It was the practice of the pagan Romans and Greeks to slaughter animals to various pagan gods. The animals could then be sold in the meat markets. Because many Christians believed the meat was somehow contaminated if the animal were killed in sacrificial rites, they avoided eating it. Paul explained that a non-existent “god” or pagan idol had no power to contaminate edible meat. If one person believed the meat had been offered in sacrifice to an idol, and was therefore contaminated, the person who knew that the idol had no power to contaminate the meat – that it was perfectly edible – should not exercise his “lawful” privilege to eat if it would offend the conscience of another. Here, the entire matter is to avoid defiling the conscience of a brother.

Paul concluded the passage by saying, “But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice to idols, eat not for his sake that showed it, and for conscience sake… Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty [to eat edible meat, even though sacrificed to a dead, non-existent “god”] judged of another man’s conscience?..” (v. 28-33).

I have trouble with this one too, cause I pride myself in earning the “red vag of courage” if you know what I mean. She screams like a banshee, and I’ve got a tongue like the serpent. Who cares if she’s on the rag.

I too have been known to fight the “Red Tide,” some cultures think of it as a delicacy, and I for one agree! 👍

This is Crude Rude and Offensive - We REALLY don’t need those kind of comments here. If you want to talk like you’re in a bar, please go to a bar. This isn’t a bar.
Thank you.
In Christ, Michael

We don’t eat animal blood because it makes us animal like…our blood to consume is the Body and Blood of the Lord. Thanks be to God!

we are forbidden to eat the blood of animals because it is not the Blood we are to eat as Christians but The Body and Blood of the Lord Our God. The Life is in the Blood!

… He said, “I forbid this because the life is in the blood” (same verse).

THE LIFE IS IN THE BLOOD. That was God’s only reason for forbidding the eating of blood.

Now, what is God’s reason this time for not allowing the eating of blood? Listen: “For the life of all flesh is in the blood. Therefore I said to the children of Israel: you shall not eat the blood of any flesh at all, because the life of the flesh is in the blood” (Lev. 17:14).

God’s one and only reason has not changed. THE LIFE OF ALL FLESH IS IN THE BLOOD, that’s why blood cannot be eaten.

Now, fast forward in time to the New Testament era and the NT Church,…
*For the life of the flesh is in the blood; and I have given it for you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement, by reason of the life. * For me there has long been a connection between the above words of God in Leviticus 17 and the following words of Our Lord in John 6.*John 6:53 So Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; 6:54 he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. *And, precisely because of how ingrained the OT Leviticus teaching was, when a few sentences later Jesus said:John 6:63 It is the spirit that gives life, the flesh is of no avail; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. the apostles never understood Jesus to be telling them the whole previous discourse was only symbolic. They knew He knew He meant real flesh and blood – and real life, eternal life. They couldn’t understand how it would be made possible. Later, at the Last Supper, they would be shown. (Mt. 26:27-28 …“Drink of it all of you; for this is My blood of the covenant which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins”)
