Eating Consecrated Specks...breaking the fast?

Hey All,

In the course of my duties, I prepare the altar and often I find specks of the Sacred Host and I consume them. My question is does this break the Communion fast as I do it most often preparing for Mass.

Also does it count as other Communions?

I wouldn’t think so. But it sounds as though the priests of your parish are not being careful with the ablutions following communion.

Yeah that was my initial reaction too.

Though they’re very holy Priests, I suppose they don’t. Actually, they don’t do the ablutions, they just…place all the Hosts back in the Ciborium (then the Tabernacle) and sit down while the Acolytes purify the vessels. Our pastor does use a small finger bowl (but I’m not sure if its emptied into the Sacrarium).

No, the fast is out of respect for the Body of Christ, and you are there consuming the specks out of respect.

You are doing a good thing and should continue doing it, it is not done out of a disrespect of the Eucharist or selfishness.

Now eating a sloppy joe before Mass just because it looks so darn tasty and who cares about the fast as the sloppy joe is more important than the Eucharist to you, that is wrong.

How can there be specks laying around?? Dosen’t this desecrate the host?(not the eating of them, but them being left in pieces somewhere after consecration) I always thought the church was really careful about putting everything back in the tabernacle…
