Ebook and kindles (commentary talk)

I found a good deal on the commentary by Theophylact on Galatians on the Chrysostom Press website. The ebook was only 7 dollars, killer deal for the value of that commentary!

I have always collected commentaries and writings from the Church Fathers and medieval writers, and have always bought them in print. I am now finding myself preferring electronic texts now. I’m curious if anyone can lead me to some links that has ebooks of Bible commentaries? When i go to ebook sites i am having a very hard time finding the kind of selection i am looking for.

Perhaps you can tell us what kind of eBook Reader you are using since different readers only work with certain formats?

FYI: I know the OP put kindle on the title, but which version of the kindle?

Obviously i dont know much about kindles and ebooks and their formats. All i know is that i installed a kindle reader on my PC so i can get kindle books on it, i dont need the small kindles. All i do is download the ebooks, other than that i dont know much about the technology of it.

Let me say that having an eReader like a kindle is great for me. I also have the Kindle Reader on my PC and phone.

With that said, the bad thing is that you cannot ready anything that Amazon does not allow to be read. In other words, if you cannot get if from Amazon, than you cannot use the kindle reader. I would recommend taking to your local library to see if they allow digital books to be checked out. If they do, Adobe has the market with that. You can actually go to the library’s website and check out a book. It will load to your PC and delete itself after it is done.

It is possible, but it depends on where you’re buying the books. BN books probably won’t work, but I have been able to buy books for the kindle from Ignatius.com. They seem to cost a little more (typically a dollar or two more) than the amazon.com versions of the same books, but you’re not locked in to the kindle format with them either. They have them in epub and kindle formats. epub can be converted to mobi with calibre. With the kindle reader you just open the prc/mobi file and it should work fine. My copy of the Ignatius RSV2CE Catholic Study Bible is from the Ignatius website and it works great in the reader.

You are misinformed. Anything that is in .pdf format can be emailed to your Kindle account and downloaded to your device. I have my own unpublished novel on my Kindle in that format.

PDF’s work because Amazon allows them. They do not allow epubs for example. epubs are how public libraries, and colleges allow you to borrow a digital copy of a book. The Nook allows epubs from out of the box. They are work arounds for that, but it requires some technical skill.

Keep in mind that I own a Kindle Fire and I do love it, but the whole epub thing is a hassle at times for my college research.
