How can a Catholic live a holy life in line with Church teaching in an ecumenical marriage?

Not too much differently… just raise your children in the Church, and act with your spouse as though they were Catholic.

How does the Church tend to respond when the couple alternates going to other Christian churches in lieu of Mass and other weekends to Mass, kind of in a trade-off fashion?

No. you can go to their services, but you still need to fulfill your Sunday obligation.

That can become difficult, because it is like insulting his service, like it doesn’t count.

Well, in the eyes of the Church, it doesn’t. It does not fulfill your Sunday obligation.

In the particular case of a catholic/orthodox marriage, this advice should be coming from a priest or chancery office. Such permission is sometimes formally granted for pastoral reasons.

By ecumenical, do you mean a mixed marriage?

If you are not yet married you need to think carefully about entering into such a marriage.
A Catholic is obligated to attend the Catholic Church and raise their children Catholic. In many cases it is best not to enter into such a marriage.

If you are already married, what did you discuss during your premarital preparation with your Catholic priest? All of these things should have been discussed before getting married.
