ummm, actually it is. JP2, Paul VI, as well as the Second Vatican Council all said that nothing could be further from the true idea of ecumenism than the idea that we’re not interested in presenting the Truth, rather we’re just interested in all becoming friends again. if you think ecumenism is just a word to describe “forget conversion, let’s just hold hands” you’re very wrong. that is a dangerous thing to think. one religion IS NOT just as good as the next. that’s religious indifferentism and it’s condemned by the Church. In fact, JP2 in Ut Unim Sint said that religious indifferentism is contrary to God. The ultimate goal of ecumenism is christian UNITY. Do you know what unity is? Just what Paul in the Bible tells us: that we believe the same doctrine, all of it, not just “the basics.”Hagai Sophia is absolutely correct. Ecumenism is not going out to convert people to Catholocism.
