I apologize if this has been addressed in a previous post. I did do a search and couldn’t quite find the right information. I’m a junior at Columbia. I am looking to become a hospital chaplain. Fordham Univ. has a Pastoral Studies Masters program. Would that suffice for the education credential, plus CPE, of course. It seems like Protestants need MDiv’s for chaplaincy, but Catholics don’t. Anyway, thank you for any information that you have and THANK you all so much for this site and the podcasts. It’s been invaluable in my conversion process and beyond.

This should give you what you need. Under “training,” it says that you should have a graduate degree in Theology, pastoral studies, or spirituality. It doesn’t specify an MDiv, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt.

Why would you be unwelcome at Harvard? I have several Catholic friends who have studied and/or taught there. Of course, admissions are highly selective, but a Columbia degree is a good one.

Good luck.

Thank you so much! That’s what I kept finding on graduate degrees, but was just wondering if I was missing something.
