Just wondering if anyone would like to share educational little excursions they have been on. Growing up we always investigated local Catholic Churches on our path, along with local histories.

Maryland has a great archeological dig/site in St. Mary’s CIty.
You can check out more info here.

St. Mary’s was particularly interesting to me as a teen because I’d never heard of a ‘catholic colony’ and had sort of gotten the idea that protestants had a monopoly on coming to the americas to escape the Catholic Church that was full of inquisitions/ hypocrasy (when in many cases they were escaping watchful protestant factions).

There’s also fun to be had just over the fantastic bridge into Solomons island. A boardwalk with a scenic view and ice cream!

We are traveling from the W US to New England and Philadelphia on an educational vacation. Also, going to stop at Williamsburg. There are a couple of Catholic sites we are going to stop and see as well. Most of our vacations are educational to some degree–national parks or historical sites. Part of the educational aspect of this trip will just be the scenery and long drives. America is a big place to go across.
We were thinking of doing the Lewis and Clark thing but will do that another year.
