I was wondering, if there is any effect to the confirmation name you choose?

Does the saint’s name you choose have any affect on your life? Does the saint you choose become sort of a second guardian angel for you?

My confirmation name is Benedict, after Benedict of Nursia. He seems a patron saint against evil, and since I have gotten out of many a tight jam, perhaps his intercession/guidance helped me out?

Any ideas?

I teach Confirmation prep.

What we have done is made researching the Saints part of their formation and asked the candidates to choose a Saint that they have some type of connection to- whether is is through a family connection, their Baptismal name, or because it is the Patron of an activity that they enjoy.

We encourage our Candidates to develop a prayer relationship with their Saint.

We also remind them that the Saint they choose now is not necessarily the Saint the will always have the strongest devotion to. Saints are our friends, we tell them, and in this case, it is good to have a wide circle!! 😉

Excellent response. My guess is that St. Benedict takes his job as your patron quite seriously. 😉 Give thanks.

Interesting thread and interesting question. I chose John as a confirmation name and it wasn’t until I was 54 years old that I discovered that I wanted to be a writer. (John being the author of a Gospel, a letter or so, and Revelations - at least it is ascribed to him) I have thought of it in the past and your post made me want to reply.

In fact, I’m considered posting some of my work on CAF for readers enjoyment. We’ll see.

Shalom
