Dear Forum:

I was surprised when seeking clarity on why I had no marital status prefernce questions to go along with my assertion that I was Catholic for an eHarmony questionaire. They sent me back something that I distill as our view is superior to the Catholic church sometimes second ( Or how abouot third, fourth, fiftth ) marriages are better. I would be the first person to say some people can’t stay together, but they seemed to be lecturing me for asserting my Catholic standards.

SIncerely,

AC

Perhaps, then, it is time for you to vote with your feet, or, in this case, the click of your mouse and visit an on-line service that caters to Catholic singles. I know some have been referenced on these forums before…but as a married gal I’m a little out of the loop on exactly what/who they are…perhaps other young singles have the info…?

Part of the reason you may be having difficulty with eHarmony is that it was started to help Evangelicals find like minded matches, so their views on marriage and divorce would not be the same as ours. BTW their success rate for matches was calculated initially when they were focused primarily in the Evangelical community. Since they have expanded their success rate is much lower. Your diocese may have a Catholic singles group where you may find people with similar values to your own.

I am married, so I don’t have any experience with online dating services… but I found this one for you to check into.

Good luck! I would seriously try online dating if I wasn’t already married. Where else can you find out so much about a person *before *you even meet them?

Here is an exceprt from the above website:

“…CatholicMatch.com is unlike any other Catholic singles site on the Internet. The reason we are so different is that we are not a “matchmaking” service. The purpose of our site is to provide single Catholics with a place to meet others and discern their vocation. Certainly many people use our service to meet Catholics for the purpose of dating, but we realize that God calls people to the religious and single life as well. CatholicMatch.com has brought people together for marriage, helped others towards the priesthood and religious life and given those leading a single vocation the opportunity to deepen an understanding of that calling…”

e-harmony; religion doesn’t count, only “laughter”. Their commercials annoy the heck out of me - I always change the channel because I am sick of all the “laughter”. “We laugh and laugh”, “he made me laugh”, “we laugh every day”…

Auuugggghhhh!

That’s not true - one of the questions on their questionaire deals with religion. Besides they were founded by an Evangelical, Dr. Neil Warren to help fellow Evangelicals find like minded matches,

I met my fiance on Ave Maria Singles (www.avemariasingles.com) and I highly recommend this website for faithful Catholics who want to meet other faithful Catholics.

I could not be more pleased with the quality of people I met on the site, and of course with my future husband!!! We are getting married in 7 weeks!!!

I think eHarmoney is miles above the “meat markets” of Match.Com or Yahoo Singles, et al. I think it does offer a place for more serious people to meet others with the goal of marriage. However, I do not believe it is the right place for Catholics.

However, I did read two of Neal Clark Warren’s books on finding the right spouse and his books are very good as a discernment tool. My fiance and I used the book together as we were discerning our relationship. And, the Catholic author Greg Popcak has an awesome book Together Forever which I also recommend.
