Ejaculations -- do you pray them?

Does anyone here like to pray short little prayers called “ejaculations” (e.g. “Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in Thee,” “Jesus, Mary, I love you, save souls,” “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee,” “St. Joseph, head of the Holy Family, pray for us,” “Jesus, I trust in You,” etc.)? If so, how often do you pray them and when? I’ve heard of saying one every hour on the hour … I’ve also heard of saying one every time it happens to pop into your head … I’ve even heard of saying them over and over again to yourself …

As for me, I tend to say “Jesus, Mary, I love you, save souls” at least once per hour (but based on the private revelations surrounding that ejaculation, I don’t know if it’s that’s enough, especially since it’s supposed to be excellent for making reparation for sin and imploring God for the salvation of souls and the release of the souls in purgatory – assuming, of course, that’s it’s said with love and not as some rote mantra) as well as “Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in Thee” when I see an image of the Sacred Heart. But I’d like to hear what others do. Thanks in advance for your (name removed by moderator)ut.
 
I suppose that the Jesus Prayer could fall into this category. It’s mostly practiced by Orthodox Christians and Eastern Catholics, but some Latins, including myself, do it as well. It goes: “Lord Jesus, have mercy upon me, a sinner”. Generally it’s repeated any number of times, often before an icon of Jesus. It often leads me into Contemplative Prayer, too.
Sometimes I’ll just say quite quickly, “Saint ____ pray for me” if it pops into my head.
 
The only one I currently do is to say ‘Lord have mercy on the dying’ every time I hear or see an ambulance. As a kid I was told that you could save someone from going to Purgatory if you happened to say that the same time as someone was dying.

I’d like to introduce more into my life, so thanks for this topic.

I use the Fatima prayer a bit like that. Every time I accidentally see or think something I shouldn’t I say that short prayer. It works.

I say " Jesus, Mary, Joseph please save souls". I usually say it whenever I think of it and repeat it several times. I also say “Jesus, I trust in You”.

If something is really bothering me or is heavy on my heart I say “Jesus, I place { whatever is the problem} in Your Holy Wounds” and it really, really helps!!

The nuns taught us to say ejaculations a 100 x’s a day, which I usually don’t manage. I’m lucky if I get ten said a day. :o
They also taught us to say “Jesus have mercy on them” whenever we hear a siren, whether it’s a fire engine, police or ambulance.
 
I say the Requiem Aeternam whenever I pass a cemetery, with the intention of obtaining the partial indulgence for the Souls in Purgatory.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.

I don’t think this is technically an ejaculation or invocation, but it is short.

Incidentally, as I read the Enchiridion of Indulgences, invocations are no longer indulgenced works in and of themselves. Am I wrong on this?

(Even if they’re not, they’re still good and helpful, and should be said often.)
 
I love these short prayers:

“Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us and on the whole world.”

“Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us, now and at the hour of our death.”

Of course you can make them up!

I use far too many different ones to count, which one I choose depends on my mood and who/what I am praying for.

I tend to take one aspiration (as I’ve seen them call called - not fond of using the word ‘ejaculation’ in regard to prayer) and repeat it over and over, a la the Jesus Prayer, for a good five or ten minutes at a time.

This is the one I do most often(Jesus Prayer), one day I just started saying is spontanously without some for thought…and it’s been my steady diet ever since. I say it at night over and over until I fall asleep. I too have found it leads me to a more Contemplative state.
 
I prefer to call them “aspirations;” they’re just like breathing.

Some I use a lot:

Lord, have mercy.
Keep me safe, oh God. You are my hope. (When I’m frightened or in danger)
Lord, if You will, You can make me clean. (Using holy water on the way into church)
Vouchsafe oh Lord, to keep us this day without sin. (Using holy water on the way out)
Blessed be God. Blessed be His Holy Name. (When someone uses His name in vain)
Come, Holy Spirit. (When I need to remember something or say just the right thing)

Oh, a much better name, IMO. 😃

My favorite is “Blessed is the name of the Lord.” I try to make it the first thing I say in the morning. Sometimes I say “Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I love you. Save souls!” and “O Mary, Conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.” Those are my favorites.
