I was wanting to get a tattoo that says El Shaddai, in part because it’s my favorite Amy Grant song, and because I thought El Shaddai meant God Almighty. Now I’m reading other stuff. Does anyone know, for sure the definition of El Shaddai?

Is there anyone out there who can help me? I read one translation, God of the Mountain (or something like that).

That’s what I learned in my freshman year theology class. It was used from the time of Abraham up until God revealed himself to Moses.

Do you mean that you learned that it means “God Almighty”? Or “God of the Mountain”?

My former priest (who grew up Jewish) says it means God Almighty.

I guess I’ll go with what my former priest said, since he grew up Jewish, but I’m leaning toward a tattoo that says “Have Faith” or something else, other than El Shaddai
