I know that Methodist and Seventh-Day Adventist have a “Confrence” in which they elect people too. I think that Baptist and Southern Baptist have an elected confrence but, I am not to sure. And there may be other Protestant Churches that have Confrences. What are Confrences and What do they do? And why do you elect them? Thanks and God bless.

The Episcopal Church has a triennial General Convention to which dioceses elect deputies. It’s where governance of the Church is determined. In the case of ECUSA, items have to be approved by the House of Bishops and the House of Deputies (clergy and laity–equally represented).

As a_cermak said, ECUSA has a partially democratic system in which bishops, priests, and laity are all represented. The UMC similarly gives clergy more representation, but laity are represented as well. Other denominations are more democratic.

As for why–we have this system because we believe that the Holy Spirit can guide all baptized Christians.

Why don’t you believe this?
