we effectively and spiritually do not have a pope. why can we not elect a new pope using this path? our voice as faithful catholics and the remaining faithful clergy we have left must be heard. was the election of st cornelius to the papacy against canon law/s? >>>> It was possible to assemble sixteen bishops at [Rome], and [Cornelius] was elected, though against his will (Cyprian, Ep. lv, 24), “by the judgment of [God] and of Christ, by the testimony of almost all the clergy, by the vote of the people then present, by the consent of aged priests and of good men, at a time when no one had been made before him, when the place of Fabian, that is the place of Peter, and the step of the sacerdotal chair were vacant”. - catholic dot com encyclopedia / Pope-Cornelius

Yes, we have a pope. Hadn’t you heard the news? Didn’t they tell you? His name is Francis. He’s been pope for over seven years now, since March 2013.

Protip: If you ever think “almost every single priest, Bishop, Cardinal and layman is wrong but I’m right,” you’re almost certainly wrong.

Francis is the Pope. You may not like it, but thankfully, your opinion isn’t binding on the whole Church. He’s the Pope. End of story.

The Seat was actually vacant, because the previous Pope was dead. Even if Pope Francis isn’t Pope somehow, that leaves you with Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. You would be essentially electing an anti-Pope.

Pope Francis is Pope. You may not like him, but the Church is not driven by popular demand. Pray for him.

You need to be very careful with how you are currently thinking about the papacy. Some do not like certain things about Papa Francis, including me for a lot of different things, but he is pope. Not your pope, not my pope, not their pope. OUR POPE, and you have to learn to ride out the hard times just like the Catholics of our past. There have been far far worse than him.

But the way you are thinking effectively makes you a protestant who knows the Catholic faith is true, which is not where I would want to be standing in front of the throne of God. Be careful.

(NOT HITTING ON PROTESTANTS- - - I can see the comment storm coming)

thank you, coloradocatholic. great advice. i do not mean to be a sedevacantist nor a protestant.
i am but a weak human being and i assume that we are all frustrated with pope francis. i have so many questions in my head about this papacy. >>> OUR POPE, and you have to learn to ride out the hard times just like the Catholics of our past. There have been far far worse than him.

effectively makes you a protestant
A Protestant is not someone who disagrees with a particular Pope or even someone who denies that the pope of the day is Pope. That would mean Orthodox were protestants, quod non.

A Protestant is someone who disagrees with the whole concept of the papacy.

You’re welcome! And welcome to CAF, @nomadmum! I think you’ll find it an interesting and friendly place to be.
