This probably seems like a silly question but it kind of bothers me when I must sit further back at Mass I no longer get to see Jesus. Our New Pastor holds up the bowl when he says ‘throw Him, with Him and in Him…’ and after the words of consecration when it is said ‘This is Jesus…’ Fr. simply opens his hands across the Alter or points to something on the Alter but at NO time does father just hold up his Eucharist. Is Elevating Eucharist at Mass not needed anymore?

The words of consecration are “Take this, all of you, and eat it: this is my body which will be given up for you.” The Roman Missal’s rubrics after this are: “He shows the consecrated host to the people, places it on the paten, and genuflects in adoration.”
(Roman Missal, Catholic Book Publishing Co., New York, 1985, pages 545, 549, 552, 558, 1104, 1110-1111, 1116, 1124, 1130; the words of the rubrics are slightly different for the Eucharstic Prayer for Masses with Children II, but the meaning is the same.)

Another time the host is shown, the Roman Missal has:
“The priest genuflects. Taking the host, he raises it slightly over the paten and, facing the people, says aloud:
This is the Lamb of God
who takes away the sins of the world.
Happy are those who are called to his supper.”

The 2002 General Instruction of the Roman Missal also permits holding the consecrated host over the chalice for this prayer:
“84. … The priest next shows the faithful the Eucharistic Bread, holding it above the paten or above the chalice, and invites them to the banquet of Christ.”

And, of course, at communion: “He takes a host for each one, raises it a little, and shows it saying:
The body of Christ.” (Roman Missal, Catholic Book Publishing Co., New York, 1985, page 564.)

For the prayer “Through him, with him, in him …” the priest raises the paten (or plate) with the consecrated host, rather than holding the consecrated host itself.

Make an effort to be where you can see (and possibly hear) better.

Make sure you truly witness something that is amiss.

I think you missed the OP’s point. I don’t think that where they sit is the issue. They were asking if raising the bowl alone is sufficient, at least that’s how I took it. And that is why they asked the question… to see if it is amiss.

Where one sits can mean alot.

Because OP indicates vision of actions is not as good then we can’t know if there is truly an issue or not.

OP also seems to indicate that sitting further back is not always his/her situation – so does this priest say and do thing differently depending on seating arrangements?

The post can generate a knee jerk reaction but we need to be careful.

Agreed, but that is not the reason for the OP’s question as I see it.

Then how can we infer that the seating arrangement is the issue?

Good question. Why not let the OP shed some light on that?

Does father have some type of infirmity that is causing this? He should be following the instructions as they are in John Liburne’s post. Why not write him a letter or call him to discuss it?
