Eleven Year-Old Child Abuse Victim Next Subject of Euthanasia Debate

**Boston, MA (LifeNews.com) – **An eleven year-old girl who was the victim of severe child abuse at the hands of her adoptive Aunt and her husband is the next subject of a Terri Schiavo-type euthanasia debate. Massachusetts officials, who now have custody of the girl, who has been living in what doctors claim is a vegetative state, say she should be removed from life support.

Haleigh Poutre was taken to the hospital three months ago after suffering broken teeth, a swollen face, and burns on her chest. She was extremely thin from not eating, she had cuts and sores all over her body and a temperature of just 81 degrees.

And now stepdad wants custody of her. And it’s sick, because the only one who will be standing up for her to live(stepdad) will be the one who will be charged with murder upon her death.

I have no problem with taking her off the vent. It sounds as if she will be able to breathe on her own. But stop the tube feeding—no way. IMO, they want to make her death come quicker to speed up the trial or to save themselves the expense of another trial if they convict and sentence him on the charges he is already being brought up on and then she dies. (with flames shooting from my eyes and smoke blasting out of my ears)!!!

Wow. I read the story posted here after reading it in today’s paper and after making my comments. Today’s paper said nothing about mom losing custody after abusing the child. It just said mom moved to Virginia to live with a new boyfriend. This poor kid.

dear ol’ step dad doesn’t want to take her off life support only because he knows that she’ll most likely die from the injuries and he’ll be charged with murder instead of accessory or lesser charges… what a sad story… she’ll be in my prayers. 😦

What hope is there, now that there is a precedent? This is going to become commonplace.

Removing the life support should not be a problem, however where feeding and drinking is concerned there is no grounds to deny the child these things.

PS: the de facto ‘father’ should be given the chair… at least IMHO.

May God provide justice to all, including eternal peace and hapiness for the child who so much deserves it.
