How was Elijah assumed body and soul into heaven if Jesus hadn’t reopened heaven yet?

The same way Mary was immaculately conceived before Jesus was crucified and rose from the dead, her immaculate conception being a fruit of the redemption accomplished by Christ. The effects of the sacrifice of Christ are not bound by time and can be applied at any point in history, even before they happened in time.

But, I think God makes certain acts of His apply to all time, while others only apply at a specific time.

In essence, Jesus’ death and resurrection happened once. The benefits of that act go forward and back to the beginning and end of time as we know it.
