I just received an email from the Sisters of Life regarding my vocation and I am so excited! Here comes the hard part, I have to tell the Sister I am not Catholic. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you for your prayers.

I’m confused. If you’re not Catholic, why do you feel compelled to respond at all? Further, even if you were Catholic, why would you have to respond? Is it a letter they sent to you, personally, for a specific reason, or was it a mass mailing?

And why is your username awesomecatholic if you’re not Catholic? Why not awesomelutheran, or awesomepresbyterian?

I’m on my way to becoming Catholic and very passionate about the faith. I was the one who contacted them in the first place because I want to be a nun. I have to be honest with them.

Then just tell them you’re in the process of converting. The worst thing that could happen is that they tell you that you have to wait two more years. They’ll know what to do with you, and if it’s God’s will, it’ll all work out just fine.

This isn’t as unusual as you may think it is. Just be aware that you won’t become a Catholic one day and enter religious life the next. Just move slow and steady and don’t get frustrated at the process.

I think just to prepare you, that it’s likely you will have to wait before becoming a nun. I dont know if this is true with nun’s but I know in order to become a priest if you have converted you have to live as a Catholic for 3yrs first before being accepted. But dont lose heart, patience is often a part of God’s plan so it is likely you might have had some waiting period anyway. Saying that, I dont think they will mind one bit about the converted bit, I have known plenty of priests who are converts so why not nuns. God bless you. If you do have to wait some time, you can use it wisely to prepare I am sure they’ll have advice on that.

Yeah that little tidbit should have been mentioned up front, but, do it now.

As you have said on another site, not only are you not Catholic, but you are 5 years under the minimum age for consideration as a member of this community. You need to tell them that, as well. The Sisters of Life also prefer candidates with a college degree, and you are still in high school. You have to be truthful and up front.
