Something just happened… Although it’s probably my fault for not completely avoiding the occasion of sin… Umm, while I was trying to empty myself of impure thoughts, for some reason, my sexual tension came out strongly. At first, I didn’t pay that my attention. Unfortunately, it seems that my body became over-stimulated… I ahem spilled the seed shall we say… I didn’t mean to do it… especially since I was caught by surprise! Actually, even worse, I’m also trying to get rid of this addiction. However, I maintain that this act was surprising. Exactly how sinful was this act?

Why were you embarrassed?

Where did this happen?

Is it sinful? Well, for something to be a sin you have to want to do it. Don’t you?

Our desire to reproduce is very strong for many people, it can be difficult to manage. So, learning to manage your desire for reproduction is difficult. I think it has been throughout history.

Historically, people managed their urge to reproduce by having sex. People married younger, died younger, had many wives and were encouraged to have sex. Today we are encouraged to have sex, by TV for example, we get married later and usually have 1 wife at a time. Don’t we dream of a relationship with a wife where we somehow have sex all the time? Those relationships are myths. But you can have a relationship where you have sex enough.

Will anybody argue that being happily married and having sex regularly with your spouse is the best way to go sexually? Seems to me that the best way to manage your sexual urges is to use them as God intended. That is pretty hard in our society, isn’t it? So, you work hard not to spill stuff, but how hard do you work to get married? If your married how hard do you work to please your spouse, make them happy, so you can have a good sex life?

Seems to me the way to solve this problem is to go with the plan that God made, get married, have sex. Otherwise you are swimming up a waterfall.

Ah… Did I mention that I’m only 15? I suppose I should have mentioned that.

I would call this a venial sin, not mortal, since you didn’t entirely willfully do this.

I hope that you’re praying for assistance in controlling your sexual urges. I’m 17 and I know this seems like an impossible battle to win. But don’t worry, it gets much easier over time. It will be a struggle until you get married, if you even do. You will stumble along the way, however with the help of God’s grace you can conquer this! I’ll say a prayer for you. 😉

And if you’re looking for tips on how to manage this better, look around on some threads on here. You’ll find some very helpful things. Or just ask me and I’ll gladly share the methods that help me.

Hmm? Thank you. 🙂 Just knowing that I’m not alone in my struggles make me feel better. I’ll… start by putting a filter on my computer. There! That should help… Once again. Many thanks. 😃

You are definitely NOT alone on this one… The constant bombardment of sexual/suggestive images that are literally everywhere, make it a particularly difficult urge to control. You, me, most other men, and even a few saints had problems just like it.

Well, women were married by 15, I suspect men were as well. But things are different now, aren’t they.

So, is your being single causing you to sin? But you cannot, probably, get married. So, to be fair, whose fault is that?

Sin is sin, and it’s our own fault that we sin. To blame our lack of self control on circumstances, society, or other people will never help you overcome a problem with sin. That is how we justify it in our heads and thus dig our roots even deeper into a sinful lifestyle.

Just looked at the price tag on that software, WOW… 399 bucks is a lot to drop on software that just tracks the data you plug into it…

I’ve struggled with something similar too… in terms of having unwanted thoughts.

Here’s the catch… the more we try NOT to think sinful thoughts, we actually are thinking more about them. A priest told me in confession, “If I were to tell you not to think about a pink giraffe, what would you be thinking about? A pink giraffe!”

St. Therese writes something like, ‘we don’t gain virtues by thinking about our faults. We gain virtue by thinking about virtue.’ I’m not quoting it very well, but it’s the general idea. That we become pure when we focus on pure things. If I sit and think how miserable I am, I become more miserable (and I got into a habit of this, which I found out later was a temptation)

So, don’t beat yourself up. It’s over. Concentrate on the positive.

Raphael,

None of us are pastors of souls so none of us are in a position to evaluate your moral culpability. I would recommend talking to a priest about this. Talking about it in Confession would be good.

Masturbation and lust are grave sins that we need to avoid. Nonetheless, at your age, things like this can happen seemingly out of nowhere (and if you cannot consent, there is no sin). Talking to a priest could help bring you clarity on where this particular action falls.
