EMHCs and Altar Linens

May God continue to bless you for all your wonderful efforts. I serve as Head Sacristan at our Parish and I do all the Altar linens for the Main Church and the Chapel. I consider it a great honor to be able to serve God and his Church in this manner. I remain in prayer the entire time I am preparing the linens and this time with God is very special to me. I am also an EMHC and take Communion to the Sick. I am honored to have been given the time to accomplish all these tasks and Praise God that he has chosen me to serve him in this manner.

You are a special lady with many graces given to you by Our Father. Don’t let anyone make you feel otherwise. Continue to serve according to God’s Will. I am shocked at the EMHC’s attitude. You are doing a wonderful service to this Parish and to God.

At your parish, who launders the Altar Linens?

I do. I am part of a group that takes turns. We could not possibly have The EMHCs launder them, we have over 50 EMHCs.

I was not given instructions either. When I asked if there were special instructions, I was told one of our priests actually said not to bother with all that rinsing and just launder them. Of course I went to higher authority (other priests, not in my parish) and got the correct instructions. I once accidentally threw them in the washer and after realizing what I did, I disconected the hose and drained the water into bowls and slowly but surely emptied the bowls into the earth.

And please don’t think I want to stop doing this, that is not what I want to say. I just think that the attitude of the EMHCs is misplaced coming down on a laundry woman, for lack of a better term, rather than going to the source of a problem with the placement of the linens or lack of proper training.

If the EHMCs themselves were enlisted to do this, when no one else is available, perhaps they could be a bit nicer about it. I think it might be an individual problem.

I hope you’re not making a generalization about all extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion.
And perhaps the EMHC or two who aren’t nice enough to you, aren’t nice enough to others either? We’re all imperfect – pray for them.
