First, I want to say I believe in the concept of bitter roots, bitter fruits. For example, if as a child, someone is constantly told they are no good, that will have a negative effect on their adult life. In order to over come that, the person needs to forgive the person who said the mean thing and repent of believing the lie. Then one can grow closer to God.

About a month ago, I believe that God hit me over the head with a 2 by 4 to let me know about some grudges I have been carrying in my heart. I don’t want to let anything God does for me to go to waste. So I have been going to adoration a lot more and praying to forgive the persons who hurt me and to repent of believing Satan’s lies.

In this time, God has shown me just how deep the resentments are in my heart. I have been praying with a trusted friend to let go of everything. However, this is very painful and hard to face. Well, these past 2 days, I have really been in a slump I am so exhausted with all the work I have been doing with God. I know God is merciful and will give me a break when He sees fit. But I feel bad because today I picked an argument with my mom and I know it was really me taking out my anger on her. I feel horrible.

Please pray God give me the courage to finish the work He has asked me to start. Also, please pray that more than ever I hear His true voice and follow Him closely in this trial

Sounds like God is really working in your life in a big way right now, Angie.

I’ll remember y:signofcross:u at adoration!

Praying for you.

I also carry a lot of resentment towards several family members that dates back to my childhood. I really don’t know if I will ever be healed from it. I should pray more for this. Your story gives me hope.

God bless.

I will take the liberty of giving a bit of advice which you are free to ignore. Praying is the first step. For example, the resentment probably stems from believing a negative message the person gave. It is necessary to repent of believing Satan’s lie.

Thank you, I appreciate it.

Why repent? It wasn’t my fault that nasty people hurt me when I was a child and I grew up believing their lies. What do I need to repent of? I’m finding this difficult to understand. How did you address this?

EXACTLY ! It was NOT your fault. But as a child you believed it was. That is Satan’s lie. The 3 steps I was taught is pray

1-) I repent or believing the lie that I was no good (or any other lie)
2-) I renounce the lie that xyz
3-) I rebuke all evil spirits that want to feed me lies

Does that make sense?

It does. I think that I find it difficult because I see repentance as taking personal responsibility for a committed wrong, while in truth I was a victim and committed no wrong. I believed the lie but still committed no wrong, if you see what I mean. Maybe I’m splitting hairs here but I understand the gist of what you are saying. Thank you again and please say a prayer for me.

Of course I will pray for you, please do the same for me.

And what you described is the trick Satan plays on us. We don’t understand why the others act as they do so we take it personally. The only thing you ever did wrong was believe the lie it was your fault. The truth is, those people were not acting in God’s love. We need to come to see them as hurting and forgive them. But that is sometimes a step to be done in the future. For now, just renounce the lies
