I’ve started a daily practice of reading the daily Mass readings as well as my 365 day Bible reading plan. I’ve been doing this now for just over a week. Obviously I work 5 days out of 7.

This morning I am feeling rather empty because I haven’t done my readings yet today, is this normal or is this just in my head? Maybe I need to start reading in the morning before I come to work…

I like to do my readings first thing when I wake up…but that’s just me. If I skip it I feel like I’m missing out and look forward to reading after work. I think it’s preference, though. If you feel empty since you haven’t done it just start reading in the morning! I love having coffee and reading first thing. It feels like I’m putting God in my mind before I face the world.

I pray Morning Prayer from the LOTH every morning at 5am; if I happen to oversleep or something, I simply can’t fit it in on a weekday. It’s a disappointment, but it’s also a reality, so we just do what we can. Sometimes, I may look over the prayers later, but the fact is, the time has passed and I can’t get that back. The daily readings are a little more flexible, but my point is that you shouldn’t beat yourself up for simply being human.

Thank you. 🙂. I feel a bit better tonight, I’ve just read Matthew 26 & 27, I know a little late in the year but that’s what I was pulled towards tonight.

I try to wake up early enough to pray the LOTH or Ordinariate Office and read the Mass readings of the day, sometimes I have to do it on the commute to work. If I don’t manage it I do feel as if I’ve missed something but I’ve learnt to offer a quick prayer up rather than beating myself up over it. The Dominican charism is particularly good here as St Dominic himself realised that sometimes there’s a lot to do in a day and so members of the Order would be allowed to skip an Office or say it later.
