End of Life Decisions

We have an elderly (70’s) relative in our family that has been diagnosed with a cancer. Treatment is available but cancer reoccurence is also possible. He’s said he doesn’t want to go through all that at his age.

I know “extraordinary” life preserving means need not be followed, but not being a medical person, what does this mean? Does someone have a choice as whether to undergo operations, chemotherapy, etc.?

Any advice?

I was a hospice volunteer and my wife was a hospice nurse.

By all means, contact your local visiting nurses association, or hospice agency.

I can not offer advice. But I do know that a Catholic has no moral obligation to undergo Chemotherapy, Radiation or Operations. They are all “extraordinary means”.
