Would God allow there to be a major disaster that would eliminate all humans? Like an asteroid collision or a solar thing? I was thinking about this and thought that He wouldn’t because that would mean that Jesus would not be able to come again, like in the book of Revelation.

Thank you
P.S. I apologize if this is in the wrong forum. I couldn’t really think of where to post this so I chose this one since I was going to mention the Revelation.

After Noah and the flood, G-d promised never to destroy the world again. Perhaps, however, He may allow a major disaster to happen due to natural law without directly interceding. That would, I suppose, present some difficulty for Jesus’ Second Coming, as well as for the First Coming of the Messiah according to Jewish belief.

I don’t believe anything will keep his plan from unfolding as he wills.

The Apostle Peter says in his apistle that God will again destroy the world through fire. The promise to Noah not to destroy the earth again meant he would not destroy it through flood. The destruction by fire seems to be in preparation for the recreation of a new earth before we enter into eternity. The book of Revelation also mentions an astroid named wormwood hitting the earth…that may be figurative, but it is not specified.

There will be a time of tribulation preceeding the second comming of the Christ, I don’t know that this is to destroy all human life however. Ultimiatly, when all is said and done there will be a new heaven, and a new earth in which we will live with God. So the end of all things (which will come), will really be the ultimiate fulfillment of Gods plans for us to be with him.

If there were to be an end of the world, it would probably come from us waiting around for the world to end. Evangelize, and you won’t have to worry about this stuff. It’s not going to happen until everyone whom God wants to hear His message has heard it. That should be something that excites you, not worries you. Don’t worry about the end of the world yet. We don’t really know what He means yet. You just think about what you do know, and use that to build up to what God will reveal to you later. You have to work with what you are given now first. Worry about later when it comes. But you have to do something now.

For Christ to have a second coming, obviously there has to be an extant human race at the time, or there’d be no point. So God is not going to wipe out the human race beforehand (although my understanding is that at the second coming, the current universe will disappear).

However I think He is quite prepared to let us go through dire straits if necessary. I’ve long thought He intends to drive us off the planet, and out into the universe. My own personal quirk is that transport will be via quantum teleportation, as rocketry is far too slow. Scientists are fooling around with it already, in a very small way.

For example a recent link - unsw.edu.au/news/pad/articles/2011/apr/Quantum_teleport_paper.html

Purists might think that there’s no mention of this in the Bible, but the reality is that computers, robots, space shuttles, space medicine, Hubble telescopes and all the rest are not mentioned in the Bible either. Yet they exist.

I think there’s a lot of trouble coming, and have thought so for years. In fact I’m surprised it hasn’t happened already. I could nominate several potential flashpoints even now (India / Pakistan, North / South Korea, Middle East), and factors which would exacerbate them (Western debt, population pressures and resource issues, China and India as emerging superpowers, the still formidable nuclear arsenals of the US and USSR, technology which could be used to monitor people, the global village, the resurgence of Islam, the fact the Moslems have control over so much of the world’s oil etc.).

So when the stuff does hit the fan, it’s going to be one almighty mess. But there will be a surviving remnant. There always is. Until the second coming - then it will be over.

I might add my old pastor had this opinion also. Yet he died in 1992, well before any quantum teleportation had taken place. But since he had a gift for very accurate prophecy, I think he will be proved right.

Quantum teleportation is a bunch of Star Trek style baloney speculation. There are known ways to get into space. We just try to assume there has to be a quick fix and we come up with these wacky ideas.

Humanity eventually has to be eliminated from the earth. Whether that occurs in a puppies-and-rainbows kind of way or in a blockbuster-disaster-film kind of way is ultimately up to God’s plan. 🙂

But we know that God’s plan includes a final judgment, where we get to see the full repercussions of our acts. The repercussions of some people’s acts are very small and isolated. Others’ actions resonate through millennia. So as long as there are humans, there are people who will be affected by that continuing good and evil. So the final judgment can’t happen until all the humans have completed their time on earth, so that the full effects of our good and bad can finally be seen and appreciated.

Where the second coming comes fits in is also up to God’s plan-- but I tend to focus more on the first part than the second part. There’s nothing I can do to speed up or slow down the second coming, or even affect it in any way whatsoever, but I can certainly focus on doing enough good works in the meantime so that I’m not completely mortified at the final judgment-- or even my private judgment that happens immediately after death. 🙂

Thank you, everyone, for taking some time to reply. I have thought about this for a little while and wanted to see what others thought.🙂

I honestly think we should explore space and start to colonize the solar system and then move out further into the galaxy. Eventually the Sun will run out of fuel and blow up into a red giant star, destroying all the planets in the solar system. Maybe we could stop that. But not unless we start building up an ambitious space program.

Heavier-than-air flight was a load of “baloney speculation” for a long time. But then it happened. Goddard was sending liquid fuelled rockets about the height of a telegraph pole in 1923. In 1969, just 46 years later, NASA landed man on the moon courtesy of a liquid fuelled rocket. Machines which could tranlate language were mere speculation fifty years ago. Computers now regularly translate language (if not always very well), both spoken and written.

I’ll stick with my quantum teleportation thesis. It’s early days yet.

Maybe someday. But the only way to have any chance of knowing this sort of stuff is to discover new principles of the universe. The only way to do that is to investigate the universe. Principles don’t act the same way outside of earth, so we kind of have to figure out more about the paradoxes between what we think the universe should be do and what it actually ends up showing us it does.
