Hello everyone! First off, I would appreciate your prayers for a safe trip to and from my trip to the Yucatan Mexico. I will be staying with a friend near Progresso, and flying into Merida.

I think there is an English mass somewhere in Merida. We plan to go to the shrine of Our Lady of Izammal while we are there. Have any of you been there, do you have any tips?

Thank you so much!

A Google search turned this up as the first hit:

"Anyone searching for a Catholic mass in English—it is Sunday at 9 a.m. in the small chapel connected to the Cathedral on Calle 61 x 58. The bishop of Merida will be there Sunday March 18 for mass at 9:30. Normally the English mass is every Sunday at 9:00. Hope to see you there!!

Leslie"

I went to the Yucatan in the year 2000 with the scouts and guides after the World Scout Moot in Mexico City. Izamal is a beautiful town were all the houses are painted in yellow and white.

What I learnt was that clocks are there for decoration. Official time was GMT-6 hours + or - 3 hours. The Mass in Mexico City must have started on time as we (me and host family) arrived around the time of the Eucharistic prayer and we were leaving the house late (or early for that family as we were in a hurry another day and left 7 hours later than expected).

Depending upon where you are from, drink purified water as in some areas even the locals don’t drink tap water. My host mom cleaned fruit and veg with purified water and soap. Check if it still says on the water bottles: “Do not drink when open.” 🤣

My best friend retired down there last year. Lives near Progresso, 30 minutes from Medira. They are getting a water purifier centrally installed, but for now they drink only bottled water. I am looking forward to bringing back some Catholic goodies from down there. Looking forward to seeing the shrine, my first one to ever visit.

Thanks for your comments.
