I’ve seen this a few times at Mass and was wondering the thought processes of the people who do this.
For example, a family arrive at Mass. The father, in this example, is first to enter the pew. He sits down at the end and the rest of the family several children and wife are then forced to climb over him to sit down the rest of the way. It’s very awkward and difficult for everyone to maneuver this way. Also, in keeping with the father’s example, the rest of the family just sits down as soon as there’s a clear spot, making each additional person climb over them!
Now if the father wants to sit on the end, why doesn’t he approach the pew, step back, let his family in, encouraging them to sit down far enough away to let everyone in, and then sit down last at the end ?
Am I missing something here?
