Id like to share a practice in prayer that I have done once, and would like to do again tonight. I wanna know what you all think. So basically I just pray all night long. In every way possible. I pray a pile of collecvted prayer cards, I pray the Devotion to the Precious Blood. I am praying a novena to the Holy Spirit in preperation for Pentecost so Illl pray that, I pray other devotions, I pray rosary, many actually, chaplet of Precious Blood, chaplet of Divine MErcy, chaplet of the Holy Spirit, I sing hymns, pray psalms, do blessings, say a collected stack of prayers compiled for serious spiritual warfare and deliverance, I pray prayers for repentance, and pray the beautiful Prayer of Mannassah, I read the Bible, psalms, new testament letters and specific verses also, I read writings of Christian mystics, I read chapter after chapter after chapter of The Imitation of Christ. I write my own prayers, I write page after page of pure, almost inhuman, illogical, and certainly illegible worship of God. I have rosaries, Bibles, religious objects of other sorts, all in my bedroom alone, I sleep in the basement. I sing worship songs, sing my own spontaneous worship, pray for forgiveness, graces, intentions, intercession, and everything else. Last time I did this I suddenly had a huge spiritual growth spurt. But then I neglected my soul and have fallen into various un chaste addictions, come close to evil, and smoked. My school life failed, luckily Im in summer break now, I became super lustful, and neglected daily prayer or Bible reading totally. I want to re build my spiritual life, and get the junk 0out of my life. This extraordinary experience is definitely called for. I also have neglected to Holy Spirit all nmy life, and I think I need to repair my relationship with Him. He has always been there with me, since I was baptized at 3 months old. But I neglected Him until this Holy month of June which is dedicated to Him, and right before His Feast of Pentecost. So I have told you my intentions and my practice. What do you think? Comments? Oh I also plan on reading alot of St Faustina’s diary. DANGIT I just remembered I returned The Dark Night of the Soul to the library a week ago…shoot…

I hate to break it to you, but if you did all of that in one sitting then it isn’t an epic.😦

Binge praying is as bad as being a weekend athlete. Set aside time to pray every day. Also you don’t have to say vocal prayers constantly.

10 Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations;
I will be exalted in the earth.
Psalm 46

Well I love to pray like this, it really delights me. Is it “bad” as it sinful? Or just…ineffective? What specifically is bad about it? praying vocally, I realize, is not a constant thing, but praying like what you call “binge praying” really makes me feel close to God. Is it bad to the degree that I would be in the wrong to do it?

It is better to have regular prayer schedule every day and build your life around it.

I really suggest the Liturgy of the Hours, it really helps making prayer a good habit; it regulates the day, and helps you transition from rest to absorbing the Word when you’re mind is most free of distractions (Vigils or Office of Readings very early in the morning), then to work using Lauds to mark the break from home to work, then mid-day prayer to give the mind a rest and feed the soul with spiritual food, then Vespers to transition from work back to home, then Compline to place your trust in God for the dark night.

I am very attached to Benedictine spirituality that teaches balance in everything, including prayer. It also teaches that overcoming sin is through a slow process of transformation. You can’t mask sin by prayer, but you can use prayer to help you slowly transform your life.

Remember that becoming a saint takes a lifetime.

It’s bad if you devote hours to prayer once in a while and fail to turn to God daily.

There is nothing bad about it. Prayer vigils have been a part of the church since the days of the apostles. I was making a joke; an epic poem is one which cannot be told in one sitting.

Alright, good point. Ive been trying to implement that as well, I think I just need a bit of motivation, a taste at what peace prayer brings somebody. I remember the joys of prayer, but Ive fallen sadly out of the habit. I see what your saying. Somebody else said to try LOTH. I think thats a good route to take. I will try to turn to God daily as well.

I wish you all the best in your journey towards God. You hear his call that is a very important step. Peace.
