Further, many of the diocese in the ACNA are under authority of another Anglican province. My particular diocese is a part of the ACNA through CANA. CANA was/is a mission of the Anglican Church of Nigeria. Our bishop is Nigerian. I’m not sure what new communion the ACNA was starting, when you can see all the efforts to stay within the Anglican Communion.

In this context, I think Contarini, conciously or not, is aiming more at the Continuum than the ACNA. Ironically, the Continuum, originally, in its inchoate form, wanted to remain in the Communion, too. That changed.

Well said.
Not sure if this means the Anglican Church is “right” on the issue of SSM. I’m sure that you would not conclude that because many traditional and high church Episcopal Church members became Catholics that this proves the Catholic Church is correct?

I’ve reviewed much of the literature about homosexuality and the bible. But I think that discussion is a red herring. Resolution of the issue of whether or not homosexual acts are moral would not resolve the question of “What is a marriage?” A person could be 100% in favor of the moral acceptance of a gay lifestyle while at the same time rejecting the notion that a marriage can include two people of the same gender. The rejection can rest on purely historical and natural law arguments without the bible or other religious doctrine as support. The problem as I see it is that the public discourse conflates the two issues, making it very difficult to take a pro-traditional marriage stance without being labelled as someone who “hates gays.”

Peace,
Robert

This week, the ACNA leadership were invited to Moscow by Patriarch Kirill for formal ecumenical discussions with the Russian Orthodox Church.

I wonder where Katharine Jefferts Schori’s invitation was. 😛
The Russian Orthodox Church will hold discussions with ACNA but intercommunion will never happen because ACNA ordains women to the priesthood.

Has the Vatican addressed this? Or,due to modern ecumenical ethos, is the Pope going to politely ignore the Episcopal Church’s drastic change in doctrine?

Portions of the ACNA do. Portions do not. It is going to be a difficult issue for them to resolve. And they know it.

What they decide on this will have a big impact on the future of the ACNA. I think the African mission contingencies of the ACNA may decide they’d be perfectly content to be part of the orthodox Anglican Churches of Nigeria, Rwanda, and Kenya.

Big impact, indeed.

It’s being studied. Not going to be simple.
