Church backs gay rights by calling off weddings

New Haven’s St. Thomas Episcopal Church will not perform any marriage ceremonies in order to voice their support of gay marriage, the church announced late last week.

In the wake of the decision, the church, led by Fr. Michael Ray, has received national media attention, but, following an administrative meeting Monday night, officials at St. Thomas have declined to comment further on the church’s new policy. The vestry voted 10-1 in favor of placing a moratorium on all marriages in response to the Episcopal Church’s existing ban on gay marriages, the New Haven Register reported Sunday.

when my children act like “spoiled brats”, I send them to their room.

what to do with a bunch of grown “Adults”?

Sounds like it’s time for those in that church to be finding a new home, the only true home…

HOLY MOTHER CHURCH…THE CATHOLIC CHURCH 👍

Some clerk in Oregon tried that awhile back and by the time he was through I don’t think anyone was talking to him. Bad enough to be an idiot, why make it public?

The expression, “cutting off your nose to spite your face” comes to mind.

Blessings,

Actually it was a WHOLE county, and one of the larger ones. After voting to allow gay marriages, when the governor and AG shut them down, they refused to issue ANY marriage licenses. I think eventually there was some kind of ruling that put regular licenses back in force but there was quite a long period in the summer when you couldn’t get a license…think it was Benton county.

Nothing like punishing the innocent. Imagine the anguish of a young couple whose wedding is planned, guests have tickets booked, hotel reservations, the bridesmaids have come, the band and caterer ready to go…but we can’t have your wedding Joe and Susie because those meanies won’t let John and Jim play kissy face at the altar. BLECH!!!

The Episcopal church has lost its collective MIND.

Correct, it was Benton.

Constitutionally all oregon adults are entitled to equal treatment. When the law precluded some of them from marriage it was a fairly logical position that it precluded all from it. Hetero couples were forced to be equal for a few months, sucks doesn’t it? The dominant social group sees equality as a loss.
