Is there anywhere that shows a complete listing of those saints (EC and EO) who have been given the title of Equal to the Apostles? I can only find partial lists anywhere. Thank you!

never heard of such a thing. closest to it is the idea that modern bishops are successors to the apostles.

Apostles were those who were “sent” by Jesus Christ and St. Paul attributed the title to himself because of his experience of Christ on the road to Damascus.

Another honorary title or designation was of Jesus to St. Mary Magdalene, to tell the other apostles of Jesus resurrection.

I have the impression that the Mormons call their administrative council members apostles, but I could be wrong.

Equal-to-Apostles is Byzantine title given to certain saints who have contributed greatly to the spread and protection of the Christian faith and the building up of the Church, much like what the original Apostles did. Among the Equals-to-Apostles are Mary Magdalene, St. Patrick, Sts. Cyril and Methodius. Both Orthodox and Catholics use this title.

It is an official title given to certain saints in Eastern Christianity. Some who hold that title include St. Mary Magdenlene, Sts. Cyril and Methodius. St. Photine (the woman at the well), Sts. Helena and Constantine, and St. Patrick. It is given to those who were exceptionally instrumental in the spread of Christianity, comparable to the apostles.

Yeah, I don’t think that an “official” list of those who hold the title “Equal to the Apostles” exists. A reason for this could be that even though this title is in use in both Byzantine Catholic and Orthodox churches, there are differences between churches in who is considered this. For example, the Russian (Orthodox) church holds that Nicholas of Japan is considered Equal to the Apostles for his work in bringing the Russian church to Japan. Other Byzantine churches might not recognize this. The best list I could find is the one on Wikipedia (which…no doubt you have already found).

Thank you - and, yes, I’ve found that list as well. As for the differences and the example of St. Nicholas of Japan, that’s a perfect example of why I was hoping for a consolidated list. I’d like to see what saints get that title and from what Church(es) if possible.
