When does eternal life begin? Is our earthly life actually part of eternal life? Does it begin when we are born?

When does eternal life begin?
Conception is when we know for sure that God has created our souls and put them into a human body. This is one’s immortal soul, which is eternal.

Eternal Life is also another way of saying an “afterlife in Paradise” after one’s particular judgement.

Is our earthly life actually part of eternal life?
Yes, since our eternal life has started before we are physically born.

Does it begin when we are born?
It begins at our conception.

Eternal life begins when sanctifying grace (which is a share in God’s divine life) is given in baptism. In order to live in the natural order we must be (conceived) born into it. In order to live in the supernatural order we must be born into it through baptism. So long as we are in a state of sanctifying grace through the sacraments we are participating in the life of heaven even now as we simultaneously live out our earthly life. When we die all that happens is that the “veil” is lifted and we enter fully into God’s presence and eternal life. Hope that helps.

I thought that we received Eternal Life in Baptism, however, why would we pray for the unborn and worry about their separation for all eternity if their sould, unbaptized, were not immortal?

There are two types of “Eternal Life” in our English, there is the one that is given with the conception/creation of a soul, and the one Reuben says that we need to be baptized in order to enter Heaven.

The Life that comes with the creation of our soul does not ‘get us into Heaven.’
The Life that comes with Baptism does.
