Hello!

In a few hours I will meeting with an extremely well educated Protestant friend of mine who is searching for the Truth. I’ve proposed Catholicism and I like talking with him about my own conversion, but he is very nitpicky. We were talking about saints and he sotoped me every few sentences to ask nitpicky questions about eschatology especially.

I really want to focus on Eucharist and biblical and historical evidence for it with hin today, but I do not feel educated enough on the eschatological basis and beliefs behind Eucharist to adequately answers his questions and challenges. Similarly, he does not affirm saints as “every encounter in scripture with talking with the dead is either sinful or ends badly” and because he does not agree with the eschatology.

What I’m looking for is a clear, arguable, and concise Catholic understanding of what happens in the New Creation and its relation to the present moment, eschatilogically for both prayer to the saints and Eucharist. Evidence within scripture is a must for him

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

Tyler

Heb 12:22-24

Hebrews 12:22-24 New International Version (NIV)

22 But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, 23 to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24 to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

This shows that we are, in the New Dispensation of Jesus Christ, living with the Saints. Thus, it makes sense that we can ask them for favors.

1 Timothy 2:1I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—

Notice that all Christians are supposed to intercede for all people. The necessity of interceding does not cease when we die.

John 11:25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;

I hope that helps.

Hi Tyler

With regards the Eucharist , you could point him to Exodus 12:8. This was about the first passover …

(Exodus 12:8) - ‘‘They are to take some of the blood and put it on the two side posts and tops of the doorframes of the houses in which they eat the lambs. They shall eat the flesh that night’’

So we see here God commanding that the flesh of the passover lamb HAD to be eaten . The slaying of the lamb and the painting of its blood on the doorpost was the first stage of the sacrifice , it was only completed with the eating of the lamb.

We know that Jesus is the true passover lamb , the old passover lambs prefigured Him and their slaying foreshadowed his bloody sacrifice , but in order for the sacrifice to be complete we must eat our Lords flesh and drink his blood in the Eucharist . The fruit of the Holy sacrifice is the sacrificial meal (Jesus in the Eucharist) and partaking of the Eucharist signifies communion with the Church and with God.
