I’m a new convert in rcia and I have heard comments on the real presence of the Eucharist.A critacism is that during the last suppper Christ was eating and drinking the Eucharist so wouldn’t he be eating himself if the bread and wine are his flesh and blood in essence.Trying to find a response to this. Also how do you answer the ban on drinking blood in the old testement.Thanx

Do the scriptures say Our Lord partook? Or only that he gave it to the apostles?
Also how do you answer the ban on drinking blood in the old testement.Thanx
This was addressed (well, I think) in a recent thread, [thread=132598]The drinking of blood[/thread].

Deep questions. Christ was eating and drinking the meal. However Luke says “After the supper he took the cup…” Others say while they were at the supper, it could have been after they were done eating. If you look at the structure of a Jewish meal there are several stages. I would seem that the instirution of the Eucharist would have been at the end.

All three Gospels also say that He took bread and gave it to them. None of them say anything of Christ eating or drinking the Eucharist Himself. If you look at John 6 you find where Christ sets the stage if you will for the Last Supper. It is here that Christ tells them that He will give them His Body and Blood to eat and drink. It is here that they balk at this, and He simply re-states it not once but twice more.

If Christ did partake of Himself, it’s not like it would be wrong. It would be paradoxical, but I assume God is capable of dealing with minor stuff like that without creating a black hole or anything. 🙂

Christ was the fullfilment of the Old Testament and Law. That is why we do not keep kosher, etc… circumsize…

It’s no more paradoxical than the bread being His body while He was right there 😉
