There is one Eucharistic Minister at my school Masses who raises the Host high above her head as she says “the Body of Christ” before giving it to the person in front of her.

Is this right at all?
oh boy (surprised that this bothers people)… yeah its not wrong… not neccesary though

Yes I can give another reason.

A mis-guided sense of reverence. She might think doing this is reverent, more reverent than now all the other EMs are.

I think it is dangerous to ascribe motivations to people, especially when you do not know the person in any way. All we have is what we are being told here which is far from the whole story.
So she would be trying to show off that she is more reverent then the other Extraordinary Ministers? I can see that. But whatever she is doing she is trying to draw attention to herself, and apparently succeeding

And that is something she should not be doing.

And that is something we can agree on. There is no need to look into, or guess, the motivations of the individual in question.

All we need to do is look at what she is doing to know that it is wrong.

Typically, the host should be at eye level of the person receiving the Eucharist. Not above anyone’s heads. I’m not sure if that is worth mentioning to anyone, but I was ‘taught’ that when giving out the holy Eucharist or precious blood, that they be at eye level.
Hope that helps.🙂

Our priest distributes communion like he’s dealing cards in a poker game.

I once had a boss who said, “Follow my directions exactly as I give them, and …] don’t go getting creative on me.”

I think this needs to be tattooed on the forehead of everyone (both male and female) who takes on a servant role of any kind, where one is acting on behalf of another.

I’d bet a tenner and a Party Seven that if the EMEs or EMsHC in the parishes in question were called “Communion Distributors,” these abuses wouldn’t be occurring.

Or… how about abolishing them all together? I’d bet a little more than a tenner if we did that!

🙂

I’m betting if someone told them that creativity and personal expression isn’t wanted in the Mass, and if they were properly trained, these things wouldn’t happen.

I think you should be impressed that, not only was this American capable of lifting a line off of Life on Mars, but he also knows what a Party Seven is. However, that is not the topic of this discussion, and for better or for worse, neither is whether or not we should have lay Communion Distributors. Although you are technically correct, abolishing them will end abuses by them.
