I think that even then one should not serve as an EMC, because it may give scandal to those who do not know how they are living.

I recall reading someplace that even if they are living as brother and sister they may be restricted from receiving communion at churches where they are known; again to avoid giving scandal.

Did I miss something (maybe from another thread)? The OP never said this.

I guess it’s interpretation. I understood the OP’s question to mean that the person is married outside the Church because he/she was previously married and is awaiting a decree of nullity. In that case being an EMHC in a parish where the situation is known is giving great scandal even if the priest knows they are living as brother and sister. That’s why people in the brother-sister situation are supposed to go to a parish where they are not known to receive Communion.

We have a divorced EMHC but she has never remarried nor been in a public illicit relationship, therefor there is no problem with her participation in this ministry.

To further clarify, only Priests and Bishops are Eucharistic Ministers. To be a Minister of the Eucharist means that one can confect the Sacraments.

There is a distinct ministry called Ministers of Holy Communion, in which the Sacrament of the Eucharist is made manifest to the Community.

In that Deacons, Bishops and Priests are Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and lay people are Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion.

Minister of the Eucharist and Minister of Holy Communion are to seperate ministeries, lay people can be one (EMHC) but cannot be Eucharistic Ministers.
