The blood from Lanciano has been shown to be of type AB+, which is the “universal receiver” (ie, a person of AB+ blood type may receive a transfusion from any other type without rejection). This is a somewhat rare blood type, occurring in about 5% of the human population.
The blood samples from the shroud are much less certain. It was initially identified as AB+, but subsequent analysis by a laboratory dedicated to the study of ancient blood types determined that the sample was not sufficient to establish a positive conclusion.
