We had a visiting priest (gave a pro homosexual behvior homily) today in absence of our priest. At the moment of the Eucharistic prayer today he stopped and grabbed a thin red book and said “today we are going to use the New Eucharistic prayers”

Does anyone know what these prayers are, if they are indeed new and where can I find a copy of them.

THey didn’t seem quite right… a little new agey.

The 2002 Missal now prints 13 prayers in the official Latin text.

In English, some of the newest ones are in a red softcover book.

So, yes, they have been approved (however regrettably). He was probably using one of the so-called Eucharistic Prayers for Various Needs.

Of course, his little words of explanation beforehand show that he has a rather poor sense of liturgy.

Even if he was reading from approved texts, chances are he was changing some of the words. I’d love to see only one Eucharistic prayer permitted: the Roman Canon. We’d never have to hear “friends” substituted for “disciples.”
