Hello everyone,
I’ve been to a mass every once and awhile where the Priest will change the words slightly, yesterday the Priest said, “Take this all of you and drink it, this is the cup of my blood, the cup of eternal salvation”, rather than “the blood of the new and everlasting covenant”. We also have a Monsignor here who says all the responses with the congregation as he says the Mass (i.e. "May the Lord accept the sacrifices at OUR hands…etc).
There are also other times I can recall where words have been slightly altered by different Priests, though I can’t remember exactly all the times and ways I’ve heard it changed. I was just wondering how concerned I should be about this, it’s not just one Priest I’ve heard the Mass said w/ slightly different wording, it’s several throughout the different parishes I’ve been to. I’m just worried that the Mass will be invalidated or illicit, but it happens so often (relatively), that it just seems normal almost, unfortunately.
