For what reason is both the flesh and blood (and soul and divinity) of our Lord Jesus Christ in both the bread and wine? Is it from scripture, tradition, or ecumenical council? And is there a name for this thing (flesh and blood is both present under either species)?

(And do Orthodox have the same understanding of this?).
 
It’s because in the Eucharist Jesus is wholly present. Now it’s true that the bread becomes his body and the wine becomes his blood. But we do not receive a divided Jesus or a partial Jesus. Where is body is, his blood is also present by concomitance. Where is blood is, his body is also present by concomitance. Concomitance is the name of the phenomenon of Jesus being wholly present despite the separate consecrations. He is present whole and entire under either species.
 
St Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 11:27 supports the teaching:
Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord.
 
I believe concomitance was specifically declared during the Council of Constance (1415) in refutation of the teachings of John Wyclef and his protégé Jan Hus. It likely goes back further, but that is the Council that declared it dogmatically as far as I know.

The reason is that it is the resurrected body of Our Lord that we receive. His body and blood were separated during the Passion, the sacrifice. After His resurrection we receive the whole and entire Jesus under either species.

Exactly!

Since Christ is Risen and Alive, His Body is no longer separated from His Blood. When we receive the Risen Christ, we, by definition receive both.

Likewise, since He is alive, His Soul is present, as the animating principle of the Body. To receive the living Christ means that we also receive His Soul.

In addition He is, and always will be Divine. His Divinity can never be separated from Him. So to receive Christ means to recive His Divinity.

That is why the Church claims that to receive Christ in the Eucharist means that we receive His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity.

It cannot be any other way.
 
Thanks everyone for the answers. I never considered about the fact that Christ is now in His resurrected body. Explains the Chaplet of Divine Mercy Eternal Father prayer.
