Evangelicals living monastic lives & celibacy

This is certainly sounds to me like a move away from the Fundamentalism and so-called “non-denominationalism” that often challenges these concepts.

…part of the New Monastic movement sweeping white, suburban evangelicals…“There’s something happening here, some sort of reformation,” said Scott Bessenecker, who studied the movement for his book "The New Friars."Article.

A 2005 article on this movement said “celibacy” was one of 12 distinctives that some of these communities promote. Bessenecker was also quoted in this article saying that the movement resembles the Franciscans and Jesuits, among others.

What do some of the non-Catholics think about this? A good thing? It sounds like it to me.

Sounds good.

Of course some ‘evangelicals’ with their Christian music, Christian T.V Channels, Christian Credit Cards, Christian DVD’s and their Christian Employment are already living the monastic life style anyway. :yup:

This form of monaticism sounds more likely to make a postive impact in the wolrd.

Then there’s the Evangelische Marienschwesterschaft–the Evangelical Sisters of Mary–who have a house here in the USA. They attend the Eucharist at the nearest Lutheran church.

the Eucharist? but i thought only priests were allowed to give Eucharist to be valid. am i wrong?

I’ve attended a Taize service with Friends at the Episcopal Cathedral in Portland…I was impressed with the beauty and hushed quietness of the service…the singing was beautiful.
