I think a really good idea is to make more use of the media by burning apologetics CD’s and passing them out at our parish or other functions. People ,I have found, will more readily play a CD than read a book no matter how short that book may be. Even if they only half listen to it they may hear something that will spark something inside of themselves. It is also one of the cheapest ways (cost wise) to spread the gospel. Which means you can make all the more CD’s to give away. 😃

This may be helpful for those of you with parishes out there that are only getting a “light” homily. They will instruct the ignorant when our Priest fail to or are to afraid of “scaring” people off by preaching the truth. 😦

Do you suppose God would let me count this as part of my tithe?

go to www.biblechristiansociety.com

it’s an EXCELLENT catholic apologetics site (despite the misleading name!)

There you can find 14 free cd’s . . . you only pay $1 each for S&H.

they’re great! By far the best apologetcs I’ve ever heard for our faith, and he does it all from the Bible, as it’s aimed at Protestants. Highly recommend it!

Evangelize by thinking like a fisherman.

Use bait that will attract them and not drive them away. That means, use our common interests and common enemies to open discussion.

Remember you want them to think what you have to say is delicious. Even listening to them and drawing them out, saying “uh huh” regardless of what heresy they speak can be delicious to them. They need to barf that stuff out before they can really swallow the bait you are offering.

Reinforce the good parts of what they already believe, this helping them swallow the bait.

Be patient with them, especially if they are catfish, while you make sure they swallow the bait before trying to set the hook. Don’t bother setting the hook; that’s the Holy Spirit’s job. The Spirit will draw the fish toward you and do the reeling in, so all you have to do is get the net. Of course, if you just can’t help yourself from trying to set the hook, do so, and may the Spirit be with you.

I know for me the most important thing is to get to know the person who you are trying to evangelize. Get to know the things they like, such as are they readers, or do they like to listen to things on cd and tape. I myself am a reader and will retain more info if I am reading it verses hearing it. Even durring mass I need to read along so I can retain more info. Although my husband can do both, and because of his schedule with work really prefers to listen to cds to and from work. Although he does like to read. Also I think it is important to match personalities up. What I mean by this is if it is a cd you are giving someone try and pick a speaker that would intrest them. If they themselves are high energy, fast moving people you might want to try tim staples. If they need someone who speaks slower pick a different. Matching works great. You can do the same. Also I love conversion stories to give to people. I like this because in the conversion story there is more than just one aspect of the faith touched upon and it helps to draw people in and then you can get into more specific subjects that are drawn out by the conversion story. The other thing that I love about conversion stories is they are so adaptable, they come in book or tape/cd, and I think there is probably at least one if not more out there that fit everyone’s background, personality or just interest. This is just my take and what worked best with my conversion.

Exactly I use this same technique. I will give them something that I think might inspire them. Or if I feel inspired I will give them something that I may think might be a little to “deep” for them. Many times I have seen the Holy Spirit use this because it was the right time for them to get it and it answers many questions of theirs and draws them to the faith. We have to relize that the Holy Spirit can talk to anyone who is open, even a little!!

I know that TAN books provides many booklets that explain the faith really well. Also how many of you have read the Pillar of Fire Pillar of Truth by Catholic answers. It is very useful and gives scriptural as well as Early Church Father references. I think this is a well rounded resource that can be used on anyone. 👍
