God bless you all,
It has been a while since I have posted and never on this forum but this is the appropriate one for this question so I hope some of you can offer some advice.
Some background first to know where I am coming from and then a question. I am a recently returned Catholic. I have been back in the Church (and active in my parish) for a little over a year after a 30-40 year hiatus. In the interim, the Church changed ands when I came back, I was confused. When I decided to come back, I checked out the local diocese site to see if there was a program for returning Catholics and there was none listed. A search of the Internet listed nothing in my area. As that is the Dallas/Ft Worth Metroplex, we are not talking a small area either. I ended up going through my parish’s RCIA program which is a good program for what it is designed for, but not for what I was looking for. I learned a lot and am not sorry for having gone, but I feel called to start a ministry in my parish to re-evangelize lapsed (inactive, former, recovering, etc) Catholics and bring them back to the Church.
I have done some reading on the subject and searched the Internet but have not found anything yet that provides a framework for building an actual working program. I don’t think I need to reinvent the wheel, here. First, I am not qualified and second, others have done this. I can profit from both their successes and failures; and actually help others that were in my position. I do not want to drive these people further from the Church.
I am fully willing to leave what I must in the hands of God and trust him to provide but I feel I have to do my part also. In addition, the parish Director of Adult Education is a truly remarkable (and formidable) woman with a Doctors in Theology, while her husband (an right hand man) has a Doctors in Philosophy. Both are life long educators and my qualifications in this field are minimal. This will have to be approved by the Pastor but also by the DAE and I want to present a plan that has at least the bare bones of a program and shows some consideration to the problems involved and resources required.
Having said all that (are y’all still with me?), does anyone know personally of any resources I an use that present something like this for me to crib from? Any help will be appreciated I am going to do this but I will not turn down any help!
Patrick
