How do you spread the faith?

You could be the instrument God wants to use to lead others to His Sacred Heart.

the reason for this post is im looking for ideas, big or little.

i talk to others about the faith, wear a crucifix, listen to relevant radio and ewtn at home, at work and on the go. i also heard a good way to evangelize is making the sign of the cross before you eat when your out to dinner at a restaraunt. those little things are good and could spark someones interest in the faith.

I tried some evangelization, but people didn’t like my incessant Gregorian Chant as I walked the halls…and the clink of the incense burner got to them…apparently so did the incense…

hehe

In all seriousness, I just make it known that I am Catholic. Let that start the conversation. If religion comes up, I mention that I am Catholic or mention something about Catholicism–jokingly, seriously, depends on the context. Let the little things open the doors. If people ask questions, answer them. If you can’t answer them, find the answer or find someone who can.

thats a good reply edward george. it all depends on the situation as well. like today there was a “pick a saint for 2006” post. i printed the saints and the directions and let the people at work pick the saints, or should i say let the saints pick them!! a good way to evangelize. how awesome is our faith that we have such terriffic saints to intercede with.

Some of mine have been mentioned. I love it when my two-year-old prays before meals in her loud two-year-old voice at restaurants and people watch and smile as I pretend to be embarrassed and try to quiet her.

Another painless way to evangelize is that when I am done reading our diocese newspaper (which carries two or three apologetics sections), I remove my mailing label and leave it open to an interesting page after we leave the play area or some place like that.

I do this with other things, such as when I accompany my wife to the women’s clinic (which is very contraception-friendly), I leave copies of the anti-contraception skit script I wrote and posted a while back.

In my dorm, I’ve got my Catholic Bible, a crucifix, the cross necklace I got from Rite of Acceptance, various rosaries, a calendar that has all the feast days and whatnot on it (so handy!), and other things. It’s pretty obvious I’m Catholic when you walk into it.

I also follow what edward_george suggests, minus the chanting and the incense burner. 😉

I’m planning on putting a verse reference (eg: John 3:16) in my textbooks, so if they’re stolen the police can use that is an identifier, as well as when I sell the books back, maybe someone who buys it down the road will get interested by it. Who knows?

My biggest thing though is to do my best to love and serve everyone. In shared living enviornments, actions carry far more weight than words (from my experience, at least!).

Crucifix in my office, cross from my rearview mirror, always cross myself before eating (especially in restaurants or business lunches - Mark 8:38). When visiting protestant friends and family out of town, we make sure we find the local mass times - don’t miss a Sunday at Mass, even though it means celebrating Easter at a different church than my parents. Oh yeah - I made a Catholic webpage. It’s small and probably not very influential, but I thought it would be just one more positive thing to pop up when someone googled “Catholic.” Cheerfully volunteer at our parish and school (separate places). I also have a tendency to ask what church people belong to, but only when the conversation lends itself well to this. (Like when my boss referred to something as “anathema,” it prompted me to ask where he learned to use a word like that.)

I offer to pray for someone when they mention something that is bothering them or on their mind. If it’s a sickness or a family concern I offer to light a candle for them. They almost always say yes and then ask why I would do that. It opens up an opportunity to share my faith,

I like the bumper sticker technique. if it can work on me it can work on anyone. The Holy Spirit said “try listening to this” and i haven’t gone back since. 👍
