on an urban state university campus where baptists and methodists have student groups outreaching and evangelizing others, what suggestions do you have for Catholic students in a state where only 6% of the pop. is Catholic?

Pray, evangelize, perform charitable acts, host events after Mass (if there is a Church or Chapel on campus), provide transportation to/from Mass (if Church is off-campus), start a Catholic Students organization, try and connect with any Catholic faculty, work with a local Church Young Adults or Youth Group, pray some more…

Have you looked at Cardinal Newman Society?

Check and see if your campus has a branch. If you’re in an urban location, there may be a local parish.

There is a newly formed group which meets for Mass in the student center weekly followed by lunch and program/.study; A local priest + leader from a parish head this up.
I am on the faculty, have been a practicing lifelong Catholic and have a Bible chapter/verse system worked out, so for me, it’s not a problem, but most of the Catholic students don’t have this facility -and remember, less than 10% of the University enrollment of 13,000+ are Catholic. Always open to help and/or train others.

It will help to get the word out. The school has Methodist and Baptist groups, but I am willing to bet the “undecideds” out number them, and those are the ones (as well as the Catholics of course) you want to interest in coming to your group. Can you put in a notice in the campus newspaper?

When I was in college we would buy a ton of things in bulk to pass out on campus with a sticker on the item inviting people to the Catholic group. For instance, on hot days we passed out water with the Catholic group’s info on a sticker over the label. Before finals we passed out a “finals survival kit” with things like chips, a pencil, a scantron, etc. Around Valentine’s day we put our info on boxes of Sweethearts candies and wished people a Happy Valentine’s day as we passed them out. People were always shocked that someone just gave something away. We would get responses like, “Oh, I don’t want to buy anything.” and then a shocked look when we told them the item was free. Even if a lot of those people never step foot in a Catholic church or one of your group’s meetings, it spreads goodwill and these random, inexpensive acts of kindness around campus may help shape a better image or idea about Catholics in their minds than they once had.
