So my friend and I decided to go along with number 4 (slightly modified) on the 12 painless ways to evangelize on www.catholic.com
bare with me and tell me what you think
he’s part of the parish council. so a meeting is coming up, and he’ll ask them to make a request for a collection to gain money for the parish’s response to the new evangelization.
then him and i will write one page articles (or buy tracts, or do somethin!) and either put an insert in each bulletin and/or put these tracts in the pews and ask father to mention them during the homily.
anyway, what do you guys think? could it be successful/effective?
any practical ways of getting this mass project done? what should be printed out, how should they look, contents etc.

Thanks for any advice/feedback you have!
God Bless,
Mordocai

Rather than looking at it in the form of just leaflets, take a look at this idea.

I ordered the free cd selection and it was quite good, and there are three different pamphlets with it as well. They are associated with Saint Joseph’s Communication, and seem reputable. I heard about them on EWTN Radio.

oo I’ve read about them before and saw those things at a TLM Indult Mass church (st. john cantius parish in chicago)
Think people would really donate the money for 'em?
I figure if you provide things free, people’d be much more apt to do it.
But hmm… I suppose we could bring this up at the parish council too. thanks for the reminder!

Anyone else got any idears? 🙂

We have these at our parish, and they seem to have no trouble getting donations and clearing the rack of CD’s.

Interestingly (and maybe sadly), with all the great apologetics topics, the CD that goes like hotcakes is on the topic of how to deal with suffering and unhappiness.

If you would rather, and if you have the money, you could at least give them pamphlets out for free. Just restock them from parish money, if that’s possible.

My pastor doesn’t seem to want to go this route, I am sad.

I don’'t know about pamphlets. It seems nobody ever reads them. Is your parish doing the evangelization intiative? Maybe you could get a group together and just talk or even if one of you is good speaker and knows enough about the faith you could have a couple of talks about evangelization and let people ask questions. Otherwise, I would just stick with the pamphlets, somebody will read them and it will probably help them.

Mordocai, GREAT IDEA. I think I’ll try that at my parish. Wow, thanks for the idea!!!

There is a program called “Christ Renews His Parish” sort of a mini Cursillo program that is intended to revitalize the Church at the parish level. I have been a participant but we really haven’t had enough experience in our parish yet to judge. It has had very positive impact on some other parishes I am aware of.

Either way you do it, start an apologetics group in your parish. Once you light the fire you need to fan the flames.

How shall I go about starting an apologetics group? It’s tough for me, I’m sorta in between. 18, not in the youth group anymore (though i still participate in some things) and not old enough for any of the older folk to listen.
Any suggestions on that?
Apologetics Bible Study maybe?
“Learn how to defend your faith; and learn why you believe it!”

“Learn how to defend your faith; and learn why you believe it!”
Now the word of the LORD came to me saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” Then I said, “Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am only a youth.” But the LORD said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am only a youth’; for to all to whom I send you you shall go, and whatever I command you you shall speak. Be not afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, says the LORD.” Then the LORD put forth his hand and touched my mouth; and the LORD said to me, “Behold, I have put my words in your mouth. See, I have set you this day over nations and over kingdoms, to pluck up and to break down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.” (Jeremiah 1:4-10)
If you think you are ready and able to organize and lead an apologetics study, don’t worry about age differentials. The people that are really interested will stay.

My wife and I led a pretty successful 12 week Apologetics class last year using the Beginning Apologetics series. It utilizes an inexpensive study guide with a question guide available. To learn more go here:
catholicapologetics.com/ba1.htm

The way we did it is to start with a brief overview the first week. Then we passed out the questions and assigned the reading for the next week. Each meeting I would give a brief talk the first hour, take a short break, and then go over the questions. After each topic I’d recommend a few appropriate books for further reading.

I actually work for Lighthouse Catholic Media. I just started a couple of months ago because I thought the program was so awesome. They are audio cd’s of solid, orthodox Catholic speakers and they work. I won’t give you my pitch here because that isn’t really appropriate. Let me just say they are the 21st century twist to the pamphlet stand that worked well in the '50’s. Let me know if you would like more information. I could send you a cd and have the rep in your area talk to your pastor (I handle Iowa).

God bless
