Help!

I am a teen that goes to a pretty liberal, accepting public school. I love that everyone cares for each other and I understand the temptations that many go through during this time, I’ve experienced many as well. I just have a few questions.

I want to live a life where I can lead people to Christ but I’ve committed doing that in love. How can I “call out” to those who are misguided but still show love in everything I say and do? I find it particularly challenging to get through to my family at home, how am I to make it when it comes to everyone else I would like to see in Heaven? And St Francis’s words, “Preach the Gospel always, use words if necessary”… how do you do this when you want people to know of God? I’m just so confused on what I need to do and how I need to do it. I’m praying for the answer, but maybe you can help.

Thank you.

Dear Miss Morgan,

I have always believed actions speak much louder than words. I think St. Francis meant by living a Catholic life others will usually at least see the message. I have found some people are not open to receiving the Good News – Jesus. In that case we don’t force people to listen to our messages but turn to prayer. Prayer is a very very powerful weapon to remove evil and soften hearts so people are more receptive. Prayer changes lives – it changed mine forever.

Remember that Jesus was not accepted in his home area. The people became very upset with him and he had to get out of there. Family can be tough and that is a great opportunity to allow your actions and prayer to go to work. God will listen and answer you, in His time, always. Sometimes no action is the answer for now and we have to learn to accept that.

Be patient and continue to live out your faith and develop your prayer life so it becomes second nature. Allow the Holy Spirit to go to work and I also suggest praying to our Blessed Mother as she always leads souls to Jesus. She is always ready to intervene for us. My favorite prayers are the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet for starters.

I wish that God pours His Grace and Blessing upon you abundantly. Take care.

Thank you so much for your comment, it means a lot to me. You just answered one of my prayers! I always thought it was somewhat of a duty of mine to help my Father lead people to Him, maybe not forcibly but at least approach them about it. I should step carefully, being inviting but not condemning.

Thanks for the realization! You’ll be in my prayers! :heaven:

God bless you for your desire to evangelize. By all means do not stop wanting to evangelize, because people need to know the truth. Just keep your eyes open for opportunities where people are in need. Don’t be afraid of failure. Keep trying and keep praying and you will get better at it.

I’m converted because of EWTN. Before EWTN no Catholic has ever come into my life. I wish every Catholic was as zealous as Mother Angelica who started EWTN. Don’t give the people in your life the chance to say: where were you, Catholics? It’s all right if they reject you, but don’t give them the chance to say: well no Catholic ever wanted to evangelize me!

Just be a good person and a good Catholic. Set good examples and get involved in any clubs or events which involve social justice. Respect others but be firm in your beliefs. Perhaps, you could befriend the people of your school who are ostracized from the majority of the school’s population: the ones who don’t have many friends or who are quiet and shy.

Be open for questions. I’m not in public school anymore, but my co-workers know I am Catholic. I answer questions they may have, because they may seek God but are too afraid to ask a stranger. Who knows where it can go from there. If they ever want a Bible or a rosary, I have plenty of spares at home to give away. I also evangelize by facebook updates: including information on Catholic holy days, feasts and saints along with an interesting picture.

Non-catholics love testimonies. Give your personal testimony of what life in Jesus means to you. Always show joy in your Christian walk no matter how difficult things may be. Explain the source of that joy. People will want what you have.

God bless.
