Do you live your life here on this earth obeying the laws of government? Your government is in control of you. You know that if you kill you will spend the rest of your life in prison, right? If you go over the speed limit and get caught, do you get a ticket? Are you exempt? I think you, Leela, create the best life here on earth by doing what is right because you are immediately forced to pay the consequences by law otherwise you would be lying, cheating and stealing etc. You may do all those things now (because it “feels” right), I don’t know. Since you don’t have to answer to God you will have to answer to the police. There needs to be some sort of accountability or else we would all be killing each other and running rampant. I enjoy my life because I have the freedom within the laws of government to do right. What “feels” right to someone is not necessarily right. I enjoy my life because it warms my heart to give to others. It doesn’t warm my heart to kill or be self-indulgent or whatever. If I go to heaven because of that then that is fabulous and if I just die and that’s it, then it won’t matter cause I’ll be dead. This world is too precise to not have order. You can’t take something from nothing, only God can. I don’t live my life thinking where will I go when I die and I don’t live my life thinking God is some horrible being. God is good and I enjoy being good - my life flows better. Are you afraid to believe that there is something higher than this world that is all loving? I love my children and if they do wrong, i forgive them. They may get grounded to learn the lesson, but I don’t ever stop loving them. God doesn’t stop loving you either. We are human and are entitled to make mistakes and yes, even doubt the faith. It is disheartening and I feel for you that all you have are the things of this world to bring you joy and have nothing else to look forward to but to just die. You are responding quite a bit to this Catholic site, are you in search of something? God, maybe??But only people who believe in God fly planes into buildings, right?
I can’t see how it gives your life meaning to think that all that the whole point of life is reward or punishment after death. It sounds to me like you’ve taken the beauty, wonder, and complexity of life and boiled it all down to God’s great multiple choice test to see if we pick the one true religion. I’d rather try to create the best life I can than to spend my time worrying about what may or may not happen when I die. Good luck with your death, but I’d rather see you try to life a good life.
Best,
Leela
