Hi guys and gals. I’ve done a little searching on life after death (Heaven, Hell, Purgatory) but about every article I read was very biased, didn’t really show evidence, and just concluded yes or no. With that being said what evidence outside scripture is there for life after death? Thanks and God bless!
I’ve said before the night my father died, he appeared in my room, started with an apology, we argued and conversed, and then he disappeared. But just before, and continuing right up to his disappearanc, he gave this almighty terrifying scream. It was obvious from his “body language” (if you’ll pardon the term in his case as he didn’t have a body, since it was lying in bed several miles away), that something was coming for him, and it frightened him to the core.
But I can’t prove it. I can only relate it as part of my experience.
And as far as I know, that’s the only evidence you’re going to get, other than spiritual experiences which clearly come from an external source. I’ve experienced that as well, but once again, I can’t prove it.
My experiences tie in with Scripture and Christianity though. WHen my father appeared to me, it was obvious he was being judged. Most of the time he was looking over my head, either with a look of awe, and at other times hiding his face behind his hands, as though he could not bear to see what he was watching (elements of his life that left something to be desired, and that he was ashamed of as he watched, so much so he couldn’t bear to see it?).
I’ve had three “double whammies” (like a breath going through you in waves from head to foot), each time highlighting something another person was saying, and each time with reference to a Scriptural or Christian figures viz.
- King David - words were from Samual “… a man after my own heart…”
- St. Paul - words were spoken by my old pastor referring to the effect Paul probably had on the captain of the guard taking him to Rome as they faced shipwreck on Malta - “… little man of great insight and wisdom …”
- CS Lewis - words were again spoken by my old pastor referring to CS Lewis’ former “freethinker” status, but eventually he developed an “… intellectual ministry that went around the world …”.
And the ONLY reason I remember those specific phrases from those specific sermons or Bible study session (all over 25 years ago now) is because of the “double whammies” which highlighted those particular phrases on those particular three occasions.
I’m reading an “Idiot’s Guide” (funny that) on String Theory at the moment, but it pointed out that the earth moves 700 mph around the equator as it spins; it moves 70,000 mph around the sun; the sun moves 500,000 mph around the Milky Way etc. (and of course the Milky Way moves ???).
Yet God knew where to find me on those three occasions, probably separated by a year or so, what was about to be said, who was saying it, the relevance of the context to me, and get my attention without anybody else knowing, unless I chose to tell them.
In the meantime he’s monitoring the thoughts of another 7 billion people on the same trip, keeping a close eye on the rest of the universe, watching sparrows in case they fall., and counting a diminishing number of hairs on my head (He’ll be down to double digits soon, the way things are going).
Our super computers have a way to go before they catch up to that sort of information theory in practice. Even when we develop quantum computers (probably in the next ten years or so), which will be able to do calculations in a few seconds even current super computers couldn’t finish before the death of the universe according to the experts, we won’t be anywhere near that sort of capability.
So I’d say there’s life after death. But I can’t prove it.
It all depends on God, and if my three “double whammies” are any guide, He plays a close hand. He doesn’t show Himself very often.
